anyone can be a writer

Can anyone be a writer? Can anyone, with the right training and mentorship become a great writer?

What makes a great writer great? Is it something that one is born with or is it something that’s cultivated?

I have been reading a lot of novels lately and have asked myself this question often. I wonder when, for instance, reading a novel by a top author, what makes them great? Or, not what makes them great, but how did they get great?

I’m curious about background stories of writers. I’m curious to figure out the places from which they write and tell their stories.

Speaking for myself, I think my desire to write came from a inability to really speak for myself. I internalized a lot of thoughts and spoke to paper instead of real people. I think a lot. I think about human behaviors. I study people. So, when I write, I’m only releasing parts that already live in my head.

I think anyone can be a writer. But I think that it’s the writers with an ability to tell their stories from the heart that I am most drawn to as a human being and writer.

STOP.

What do you think? Can anyone be a writer? Can anyone become a great writer?

  1. We are all storytellers. It is our human nature. And writing is just one way of telling a story. We won’t all be bestsellers, but that isn’t why we do it. Great post!

  2. That was an excellent post today. I really enjoyed reading it very much Thanks so much for sharing it. Have a great day.

Hmm. While anyone can write, not anyone can be good at it. There are a number of things that make up a good writer, someone who writes words people would actually want to read, and not everyone has those things… namely imagination, /good/ writing skills, love of reading, etc.
